Day 1 (Monday) was all about mapping and scaling the design to fit the wall. Although the design shared wasn’t accurate, I had to make executive decisions in ensuring it fits aesthetically. This process did consume a good amount of time but for the size of the wall, this was expected.
Day 2 (Tuesday) was all about the “skim coat”. The skim coat is a flat layer of paint laid out simply to cover the surface area. The goal isn’t to have a finished layer of color but to have a base laid out. With spray paints, you don’t necessarily need a primer as some brands already have a primer base. In some cases, it is important to prep your surface before painting to ensure a clean application.
Day 3 & 4 (Wednesday & Thursday) was covering as much wall as possible. Some panels required more than two coats, specifically the yellow and white paint on the gray wall.
Day 5 (Friday) was by far the worst day as the weather was unbearably windy making it quite difficult to spray paint. This was a bit annoying considering this would’ve been our last (second last) day working on the mural.
Day 6 (Saturday) was a great day as majority of the mural was done. We were about 95% complete. All that was left to do was the logo and touch ups. A few issues arose in regards to some colors were unfortunately unavailable at the stores so I had to make an executive decision to use wall paint instead. I was lucky to find a paint supplier that could color match and produce the colors needed to complete the project.
Day 7 (Sunday) was the last and final day. Although the project took a day over than expected and estimated. Of course, there were a few glitches and issues along the way but the most important part is ensuring that a good job was done. I’m glad we were able to finish the project and as result, produced a beautiful outcome as the client expected!
