Day 3: Still Life🎨 (contd.)

RECAP: In part one, I built my still life composition from the ground up using objects I collected and finished with the base layer and sketch.

Initially I had planned to do a base completely in acrylic (picture above) and then finish in oil, but halfway through, I realized that I’m wasting my time with acrylics so I jumped straight to oil. The comparison and results of working with oil verses acrylic is unreal. See for yourself—

So far, I’m happy with my progress in this painting as I have only been working on it for about 10 to 12 hours at this point. If there is anything working with acrylic paint has taught me, it is speed. With everything currently on canvas, I had to take a break to allow everything to “dry”.

Fun fact: Oil Paints do not dry, in fact they oxidize, hence why they have a much longer “drying time”. Typically once an oil painting is finished, it can take up to 6 - 12 months to completely oxidize (this also depends on the layers and thickness of layer).
